When you’re browsing online for pet birds for sale, all sorts of exotic species will pique your interest – making it extremely difficult to come to a firm decision, particularly if you have limited knowledge of certain breeds.
Struggling to decide? Caique parrots could prove an intriguing choice – in fact if you choose to buy birds of the Caique variety, the house will instantly benefit from a splash of colour. Learn more about keeping Caique parrots in the guide below.
Birds For Sale: Caique Parrots
Caique parrots are lively, affectionate birds that are native to the jungles of South America. These pet birds come in two varieties – the white-bellied Caique and the black-headed Caique. Extremely colourful both in feathering and personality, Caique parrots will bond well with their owner provided they are socialised from an early age.
It’s important to buy birds from the Caique family plenty of toys, as they are naturally curious and can become bored easily. A larger cage is generally desirable for this particular breed, as they love nothing more than to explore their surroundings. Unusually even amongst parrots, a Caique will exhibit a ‘surfing’ manoeuvre where it will rub its face and chest against an object before using its beak to slide along a surface. This isn’t simply a reason to draw attention; it’s an essential cleaning ritual.
One issue that can often deter many bird enthusiasts from keeping parrots is noise levels. Thankfully, these pet birds will remain fairly quiet with the correct amount of training. As with many of the most colourful exotic birds, Caique parrots are relatively poor imitators of human speech – African Grey parrots are a better choice should this be a primary concern. However, in purely ornamental terms, few birds for sale on the marketplace are more attractive than Caique parrots.
Finally, if you’re looking to buy birds from more than one breed, it’s sensible to keep Caique parrots separate as they can demonstrate aggressive tendencies towards rival birds – particularly during feeding, where they enjoy chewing on seeds, nuts, fresh vegetables and fruit.
