How to Raise Chickens – Breeds
Before learning how to raise chickens you need to decide on your reasons for breeding chickens and then choose a breed accordingly. Different breeds are used for certain reasons. Make sure you raise chickens of the appropriate breed for your specific needs.

    Budget
When raising chickens, be sure that you have the financial means. You should figure out whether breeding chickens, and all the care they require, can fit within a reasonable budget for you individually. Food, bedding, and healthcare should all be factored in when you are learning how to raise chickens.

    Room
Next up, you should determine if you have adequate space to house your chickens. Each chicken should have about 2 square feet of room each for them to be healthy and comfortable. It is also important that when raising chickens, they have access to an outdoors area for foraging purposes.

    Materials
To raise chickens when they are young you are going to need a whole host of materials. These include:
    •    An enclosure with bedding
    •    The right sized feeders
    •    Waterers
    •    The correct feed for the young
    •    Heat bulb

Make sure you have all these items in advance so that you are ready to raise chickens properly.

    Needs
Research your particular chicken breed for any particular needs they may have. Some exotic breeds will require different ways of treating and caring for them. Some will need special grooming techniques depending on their feathers.

    Time
Ensure that you have the time to take care of your chickens properly. Each day will probably require about 30 to 60 minutes of care. This includes feeding, cleaning, replacing water and collecting eggs.
