Finches and other domestic birds are not as likely to develop lice as wild birds but it does happen and can be very uncomfortable for your finch. Read on to find out how to tell if a finch may have lice:

If a finch has lice it will often preen excessively. Sometimes it will clean its feathers so excessively to the point it will develop bald patches.

Finches with lice will also develop damaged feathers – ruffled and bald.

Finches with lice often grow very restless, particularly at night-time when they should be sleeping. If a finch appears nervous, irritable and as though it is itching then there is a good chance it has lice and this problem will need to be addressed quickly.
