How to Carry out a Budgie Cage-Swap

When it comes to moving birds, particularly parakeets, cockatiels or budgerigars, you have to take things slowly. A change of environment can often frighten a budgie, for example, and lead to depression if not approached gently and slowly.

Make sure the new cage is as similar to the old one as possible – with the same toys and perches. Put them in the same part of the cage if possible.

Hang millet spray or place a favorite treat in the new cage. This can entice your budgie into the new cage more quickly. Place the new cage next to the current cage and have both doors open. This way the budgie can see into the new cage and its curiosity should take over.
