How to buy the Right Equipment for your African Grey Parrot

African Grey parrots for sale are wonderful pets, but they require lots of attention – and that attention requires special equipment. So before you buy an African Grey parrot, make sure you have all the necessary bird accessories. Also, remember that African greys can live up to 70 years!

    CAGES

African greys should not be kept in a cage all the time as this can lead to depression and the harmful activities involved, but they do need one. They should have the largest cage possible – at the very least 30x30 inches. If you keep your parrot in a room that has lights on, buy a cage cover for night-time to give the African grey a quiet, dark place to rest.

    FOOD

African greys need high quality pellets for their diet. However you should also try and give them a supplement of fruit and vegetables that makes up about 10% of their diet. Obviously you will need to buy food and water bowls – these must be cleaned daily if possible to stop mould growing.

    EXERCISE

African greys need exercise equipment such as a play frame – you can build these from scratch at home or buy them in a pet shop.

    PLAY

All pet birds need toys to keep them occupied, especially highly intelligent ones. Purchase a wide selection made from non-toxic wood or another safe material such as tough plastic, so there are enough to alternate regularly.

    GROOMING

You will definitely need tools for grooming your African grey parrots – they require grooming regularly. You will need special nail clippers designed for birds to make sure their nails don’t get too long and therefore uncomfortable for them. You will also need a birdbath – however, a pan or a large bowl can easily double as one of these as long as you keep it hygienic.
