    Keeping Your Cockatiel happy

To keep your cockatiel happy it is very important to feed it a proper diet with all of the nutrients it needs. Make sure that you give your cockatiel bird plenty of fruit and vegetables to keep it happy and healthy. It is also important to treat your cockatiel, all cockatiels love spray millet.

Another important element of cockatiel care is cleanliness. Cockatiels generally love to play in running water so they may even try to jump in the sink or shower to play in the running water or you could put bowls of water out for them and they may splash about in them. Some cockatiels will not like water but since it is very important for them to be clean you should mist them with water from a spray bottle.

The cockatiel cage must be kept clean to ensure its happiness. You should change the newspaper in the bottom once a day and wipe down everything with a moist cloth once a week. At least once a month you should take the cockatiel cage apart and clean it thoroughly, including all perches and toys.

Your cockatiels nails need to be trimmed regularly for its own and any other birds safety. You must be very carefully not to cut too close to the vein otherwise you could cause life threatening bleeding to your cockatiel. If you are unsure about how to go about this most pet stores will offer advice on cockatiel care.

Without proper attention your cockatiel will get lonely and become withdrawn. Make sure that you interact with your bird at least once a day by taking them out of their cage and trying to teach them to talk to provide entertainment and mental stimulation for them.

You should also keep your cockatiel bird happy with plenty of toys. Buy them safe toys which they can rip apart, try toys with bells on or toys which you can stuff treats in for them to try and get out.

Be careful what you feed to your cockatiel. Cockatiels, along with most birds, are severely allergic to caffeine, chocolate, avocado and alcohol. Salty and fatty foods are also very bad for them.
