    Swallows Hatch In Kitchen

A Pembrokeshire pensioner has had a surprise after a nest of swallows hatched in her kitchen. Their parents successfully built a nest from mud and straw above a picture frame over the kitchen sink and four fledgling birds were hatched. The woman in question, 79 year old Pam Jones of Roch, Pembrokeshire, says she is delighted and did not think that the eggs would hatch as the parents did not seem to spend much time sitting on them, but believes the heat in the kitchen helped them survive.

She keeps her back door open during the day so the parents can fly in and out to gather food, as well as playing classical music for them. After dark the whole family settle down in the nest, although it is expected that they will soon fly away to find new homes – leading Pam to say that she will miss them, as “they are gorgeous”.
