Soldiers Told To Stare Birds Down
Soldiers in Austria have been told to intimidate birds by staring at them rather than using their guns, after 25 storks hanging around Zeltweig airport were feared to be potential dangers to the Airpower 2011 air show. First of all organisers tried to lure the storks away with bait such as better feeding grounds further away and even plastic storks. Now, twenty-four soldiers drafted in with the problem have been told to stare the storks down, as this is more intimidating to the birds than the sounds of guns or other explosives. It is necessary to remove the storks from the area because they could bring down a plane if sucked into its engine.
