Sherlock the Vulture: Not Much Cop

A vulture has been hired by police in the Lower Saxony region of Germany as part of the force – its main job being to sniff out the corpses of missing people. The aim was to fit the bird, known as Sherlock, with a transmitter. However, despite the apparent sensibilities of the plan, officers have run into training difficulties after just two months. It turns out that Sherlock just doesn’t have that much passion for his job – and prefers walking to flying, as well as regularly confusing animal remains with human remains.

It also transpires that Sherlock, who has undergone training alongside two other vultures known as Columbo and Miss Marple, is naturally timid and anxious, preferring to stay in the confines of his zoo than to aid police officers. Miss Marple and Columbo aren’t much help either, according to the force – they prefer to fight with each other than help Sherlock sniff out carrion.
