RSPB Urges Public To Give Mud
The RSPB has urged the public to provide wet mud for birds in their back yard during the breeding season after the driest April in UK records has left many birds such as swallows and martins unable to build their typically ornate nests.
The RSPB is encouraging any members of the public whose backyards might play host to these birds to offer a lid of wet mud or to create damp mud at the edges of borders and ponds or in bare patches of grass. As well as using it to start new nests, birds will be able to use the mud to mend existing ones.
It is crucial that the swallows and martins are able to build their nests during this summer as they need strong and safe nests in order to breed in the breeding season.
