Bird enthusiasts have flocked to a garden in Hartlepool, County Durham after a rare white-throated robin was spotted by homeowner Chris Brown. Mr. Brown who is himself a keen birdwatcher, caught the robin in a net before releasing it onto a bowling green. He called his friend to tell him of his surprising discovery and word soon spread; it wasn’t long until flocks of birdwatchers descended upon the area from across the country in order to catch sight of the rare bird.

The white-throated robin is usually found between Turkey and Afghanistan and spends the winter in East Africa. It is thought it has been seen in Britain only three times and experts say the last sighting was 11 years ago.
