Pigeons Safe...For Now
Pigeons in the Norfolk town of North Walsham have been spared from the death sentence a cull proposed by the district council would have imposed on them. The council had planned to trap and humanely dispose of the pigeons earlier this month but its plans were revealed by the News of the World. Residents in the town had been complaining about the mess and noise caused by the pigeons. However, after the reaction to the proposed cull by many bird lovers, the council has agreed that in partnership with PACT, an animal sanctuary based in Hingham, Norfolk, it will attempt to trap the birds and then find homes for them or release them elsewhere. Nevertheless, James Wilson, the council’s environmental protection team leader, has not ruled out a cull if the trial does not work out.
