Researchers at an Italian university demonstrate that pigeons find their way home through their right nostril

Scientists have always maintained that homing pigeons are able to find their way home due to the earth’s magnetic field. However biologists at the University of Pisa in Italy have claimed that pigeons are actually able to navigate so well because of their keen sense of smell. Even newer evidence from Pisa now claims that pigeons do this through their right nostril, because strangely, their left nostril is not as powerful. The scientists discovered this pigeon phenomenon by putting a rubbery paste up the left nostril of 10 pigeons and then one up the right nostril of 10 others. GPS trackers showed that only the pigeons whose right nostril was blocked lost their sense of direction.
