Pigeon used to smuggle mobile phone into a prison
Inmates and smugglers have devised a new and unique way to smuggle contraband into prison recently. There idea was to strap a mobile phone to a pigeon and fly it across the wall. The only bad news for them is that the pigeon collapsed with exhaustion under the weight.
Guards at the Danilio Pinheiro prison near the southeastern city of Sorocaba in Brazil were amazed when the notice a pigeon resting on an electic wire with a small cloth bag next to one of its legs.
Celso Soramiglio who is the police investigator said that "The guards nabbed the bird after luring it down with some food and discovered components of a small cell phone inside the bag,"
On another day another ppigeon was spotted fitted out this time with a phone charger.
The birds had been bred and raised in the prison and somehow they had been smuggled out. Naturally pigeons fly back home so their destination was always going to be the prison.
The smugglers knew this so managed to equip the pigeons with cell phone parts so they could provide the inmate(s) with the contraband.
Police have not yet discovered who raised the pigeons and who was going to actually receive the phone but they are hoping they can get leads from the telephone carrier.
Soramiglio carried on and said "Some of them are members of organized crime groups that use cell phones to talk to family and friends and to give and receive orders for criminal actions outside and inside prisons,"
Cristielli Mansa and her boyfriend Machado Rodrigues have been arrested for drug trafficking and also animal cruelty.
