Penguins Affected by Oil Spill
Up to 10,000 penguins may have been affected by an oil spill in the South Atlantic. A cargo vessel ran aground close to a penguin colony on Tristan da Cunha, one of the world’s most isolated islands and a British overseas territory. The RSPB is dealing with the situation and says that the affected penguins will be taken to “rehab” where they will be washed, fed and kept warm by infrared bulbs. Tristan da Cunha is home to 150,000 rockhopper penguins – approximately half of the world’s penguin population.
