Residents in rural areas of Surrey have been warned to be on alert for suspicious activity after a second theft of game birds from farmland.

Surrey Police said 50 birds, worth about £35 each, were stolen from an aviary in Tandridge Lane, Oxted.

The theft, which was discovered on 19 September, came after 500 partridges were stolen from a farm in Haxted Road, Lingfield, at the end of August.

Police said anyone who had been offered partridges should come forward.

"People should really think about whether they originated from this gamekeeper," said Det Con Errol Chetty.

"Any information, no matter how small, could help us identify those responsible for this theft."
