    Owl Mascot Kicked To Death

    A football team owl mascot is cruelly kicked and killed by a rival player in Colombia

    An owl that was being used as the mascot for a Colombian football team has died after being kicked by a player from a rival team. The bird landed on the field during a game between Barranquilla’s Atletico Junior football team and Pereira’s Deportivo Pereira team. It appeared the owl had a broken wing. Deportivo Pereira’s striker, Luis Moreno, then cruelly kicked the bird about three metres to get it off the field, which led to an irate reaction from Barranquilla’s fans. The owl was considered a good luck charm for Atletico Junior. The bird died of respiratory arrest on Tuesday, probably brought on by stress. Moreno is facing up to three months imprisonment for the act of animal cruelty, although he claims he never intended to hurt the bird...
