According to BBC, Brazilian biologists are conducting autopsies on some birds to determine the cause of death of more than 500 penguins found “washed up on the beaches of Rio Grande do Sul state.

Researchers say that similar incidents have happened in the past due to shifting ocean currents and colder temperatures.

Every year during the southern winter, Magellanic Penguins migrate to southern Braqzil from Patagonia. But After straying far beyond their normal range, last week dozens of young penguins were rescued from beaches in Rio de Janeiro.
