The first osprey chicks of the year in Scotland have been born, leading to celebration amongst conservationists. The first bird was spotted in an Osprey Watch nest in the Tweed Valley on Sunday, with a second chick not far behind. This nest has been used by the parent birds since 2004 and these chicks will bet the 16th and 17th birds hatched in that time. This year an osprey has already hatched in Wales but these are thought to be the first offspring of the birds of prey in Scotland.  The male osprey in the pair is from Aberfoyle originally and is 12 years old, while the female's age is unknown as she has not been ringed.
