Operation Save the Pigeons
At the Chicago Rock Café in Burton, a group of pigeons had been trapped inside for over a week and a half until rescue teams from the Burton Wildlife and Animal Rescue Centre liberated them. Now the rescue teams have spoken out about their frustration at how long the process took after neither the RSPCA nor East Staffordshire Borough Council lent a hand. The rescue teams staged a “Save the Pigeons” protest outside the café on Wednesday night. The charity was even unable to contact the café’s landlord after making various attempts. Lindsay Newell, the charity’s founder, attests the rescue’s success to the Burton Mail, which gave the trapped pigeons media attention and finally convinced the venue’s owner to allow the charity to stage a rescue operation.
