Oil Spills Put Birds in Danger

Spills of Oil when travelling through Burrard Inlet are thought to be contributing to the decline in the number of birds in Stanley Park Ecology Society. The theory is to do with the birds food declining and therefore causing a domino effect. It is not the bird themselves being directly posioned by the oil, rather than the fish. This will then poision the bird when they eat the food or the bird will starve due to lack of food.

Reported spills into waterways in the Lower Mainland:

    Year | No.

    2007 | 641

    2008 | 542

    2009 | 607

    2010 | 667

    2011 | 615
