Man Accused of Bird Cruelty
A Devonshire man has stood trial today for alleged bird cruelty, accused of causing unnecessary suffering to five wild birds kept in his home. 47 year old Robert Wright faced Plymouth magistrates after being caught with having the finches kept in his aviary despite the fact that they are protected wild animals. The birds consisted of a linnet, two siskins and two goldfinches. Wright, of Estover, was finally charged with posession of equipment for causing a wildlife offence - 11 cage traps and a portable clap net. He has denied all the charges and will be back in court on August 15 for sentencing.
