Riley the macaw has attracted a following in Staines

Parrots are generally considered to be adventurous birds, however, Riley the macaw has attracted a following in Staines after becoming too homesick to leave the Notcutts Garden Centre where he has lived for seven years. Last year he was bought for £1700 by a woman who became very concerned when he stopped eating and talking. Riley is a very popular feature of the garden centre and gets regular visitors. His wing feathers have not grown in properly and he has never been able to fly, leading staff to suspect that the feathers were inexpertly cut when he was a fledgling. Like all macaws, riley could live up to 70 years and staff are hatching plans to send him to a better centre so he can socialise with other birds.
