Colombian police apprehend a pigeon being used to smuggle drugs

Police in the South American country of Colombia claim to have apprehended a pigeon that was cruelly being used to smuggle drugs into a prison in Bucumaranga.

The pigeon was trying to fly into the prison with 45g of marijuana and cocaine strapped to its back. It is thought that the package was too heavy for the pigeon hence why it was not able to complete the journey. Police suspect that inmates or their accomplices on the outside had trained the pigeon.

Carrier pigeons in Colombia have also been caught smuggling mobile phone SIM cards into prisons.
