British Birds Have Never Had It So Good
The RSPB claims that birds across Britain are currently enjoying somewhat of a renaissance – and that this could be the perfect decade to be a birdwatcher. What with osprey chicks hatching in Wales, peregrine falcons hunting over Bath and great bustards thriving in Somerset, it seems birds in the UK may never have had it so good!
The RSPB says birds are thriving because more people than ever before are taking an interest in their welfare, as well as making record numbers of visits to nature reserves. Membership is at an all-time high of over a million bird enthusiasts. The RSPB believes that in these times of austerity, a bird watching trip is a cheap and accessible day out for families.
Of course, it is not all good news. As we’ve noted, birds of prey continue to be poisoned by Scottish gamekeeprs to protect grouse and other game birds. But in general, things are looking good for most British birds!
