The oriental turtle dove, almost never seen in Britain, causes a stir

450 birdwatchers have flocked to Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire where a rare oriental turtle dove has been spotted in somebody’s back yard. The oriental turtle dove has only ever been spotted in Britain twice before, normally inhabiting countries such as Russia and Japan. The birdwatchers queued up outside owner Steve Aker’s Oxfordshire home to see the rare find after paying a fee of £5 to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) to get in. The Oriental Turtle Dove is also known as Strettopelia orientalis.
