Birds of Prey attack Small Dogs in the Capital
Shockingly, there have been numerous reports of birds of prey attacking small dogs in West London this week. Vets in swanky Chelsea have recently treated three small dogs who had been attacked by hawks, leaving them with open bleeding wounds. The hawks are used by the GLA (Greater London Authority) to keep the capital’s out of control pigeon population in check, but in a recent frightening incident, a hawk swooped on a four-month-old Jack Russell puppy in a bid to carry it away.
Harris hawk owner Nick Robertson insists the birds are not trying to kill the small dogs but are attacking out of fear. His hawk attacked a dachshund 18 months ago and he claims the bird remains traumatised by the event and has not been used for pigeon control since.
