    Battle to Bring Parrot Home

A Highland woman faces being separated from her beloved pet parrot after Nigerian authorities have denied her the right to take it to Scotland. Dawn Plummer has spent the last 6 years in Nigeria but now plans to move back to her native Scottish Highlands – however, Nigerian authorities will not allow her to take her pet African Grey parrot Elmo with her, despite UK border control giving it the all clear. Dawn has had Elmo for nearly 5 years and claims, "Because these parrots are on the endangered species list I need a CITES export permit from Nigeria before applying for a CITES import permit to allow him into the UK.

"However, according to Nigerian law I should not even have been able to buy Elmo as it is against the law for these parrots to be caught, bought or sold unless they are born in captivity.

"The laws here make no sense as they are doing nothing to stop people catching them in the wild or selling them."
