Not really bird related news but still worth mentioning anyway. Hit video game Angry Birds will be soon launching a movie where you can watch 90 minutes of the angry creatures going crazy and trying to destroy the pigs.

For our readers who have no idea what Angry Birds actually is, it is a game you can play on your mobile phone or tablet and it involves firing virtual birds into obstacles against pigs who are guarding valuable eggs.

Over 1.7 billion people around the world have downloaded the games; millions have even bought the t shirts, toys, bed covers and all the other miscellaneous merchandising goods that a clever marketing team have thought on. There are even Angry Bird theme parks that are cropping up around the world however now the Finnish firm Rovio have come up with the idea of creating a blockbuster Hollywood hit.

The company has recruited two Hollywood veterans to help direct the animated 3D film. Both Fergal Reilly of Spider Man and Clay Kaytis will help with the film. Already though fans have seen an animated series already but a film is a huge step into the Angry Birds marketing strategy. The film is set to come out on July 1, 2016.

The original Angry Birds game is based on a “freemium” model where the game itself is actually free but users can upgrade and pay. On the scale of 1.6 billion people, a small percentage actually does pay but a huge number of people buy much of the surrounding products that are on offer. Fans give up the digital purchases to go for the tangible products.

Many people believe Angry Birds to simply be a one hit wonder however the company believe they are not and aim to be around for at least the next 100 years.
