In Christianity, doves have always been highly symbolic birds. It's believed that the dove is the only bird Satan can't turn himself into - and accordingly, the dove is the only bird he cannot curse.

The dove not only resembles the Christian Holy Spirit in countless religious artworks, it is also the modern international symbol of peace, especially when bearing an olive branch in its beak.

Miners believe that if they see a dove near the opening of the mineshaft, they should not enter because disaster will befall them within.

In Indian culture, killing a dove is regarded as highly unlucky because they are believed to carry the soul of a lover within them.
