731 African Grey Parrots found dead in cargo hold

According to an article in The Guardian, 731 African Grey parrots were discovered dead after a short flight from Johannesburg, South Africa to Durban in the same country. Tragically the parrots, which had been loaded onto the plane as cargo when alive, died during the flight.

The reasons for their death remain a mystery however it has been hypothesised that the parrots suffocated. About 40-50 African Grey parrots had been crammed into the same packing crate, in direct violation of IATA (International Air Transport Association) rules. It has also been hypothesised that they died of carbon monoxide poisoning. Unfortunately the real reason has not been discovered.
