Seventy birds died and 20 were rescued after a shed caught fire in Llanelli.

Firefighters say the birds were overcome by smoke during the blaze at 20:52 GMT on Sunday in the Llwynhendy area of the town.

Meanwhile five homes were evacuated in Port Talbot on Sunday night after a fire close to a number gas cylinders.

Residents at Tydraw Hill and Penycae Road had to leave their homes at 21:00 GMT although were allowed to return an hour later when the fire was out.

The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the birds that died were aviary birds, including finches, although not all the species were known.

Fire crews used oxygen to revive those that survived.
The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
