Customs officers on the border between Slovakia and Ukraine have seized 252 live parrots that were found crossing the frontier in 2 Ukrainian vehicles on Saturday April 2. Miroslava Slemenská of Slovakia’s Customers Directorate claimed that 243 of the 252 parrots are endangered species according to the criteria set out by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). Altogether the value of the parrots was around 10,000 euros. The two drivers of the Ukrainian vehicles had originally claimed they had nothing to declare at customs, but police seized their vehicles anyway.
