£80 Fines for Leicester Pigeon Feeders
Anybody who decides to feed pigeons in Leicester could be in for a nasty shock after Leicester City Council announced new laws of fines up to £80 for pigeon feeders. The authority has decided that feeding birds in the Midlands city could cause pigeon overpopulation and therefore a spread of the diseases that some pigeons bring with them.
Assistant mayor Sarah Russell said: "It's not a war on pigeons.
"It's about helping people to understand that it's far better to feed some of the wild birds in gardens than dump what is often whole loaves of bread in the city that can contribute to all sorts of problems with pigeons and rats."
