Which Parrot?

Parrots for sale make great pets and can provide hours of fun. They are beautiful and intelligent birds. However they can also be high-maintenance, noisy and messy – so which is the best parrot to buy if you have never owned a parrot before?

Small Parrots

Just because a parrot is small doesn’t mean it won’t cause trouble. However they do need less space. Parrotlets are miniature versions of true parrots. They live up to 30 years and are a great choice for beginners.

Medium-Sized Parrots

These include cockatiels, which are child-friendly and cheery rather than snappy. They have musical voices which is great because usually parrots voices can be highly irritating, especially when you have a parrot that just won’t shut up! Cockatiels do need lots of attention, however.

Large Parrots

These are not for beginners. They need very high amounts of space and attention – also, they can do a lot of damage. But, they can talk, and provide hours of entertainment this way. African Greys can actually learn to talk in the same way humans do, rather than just repeat everything that is said to them. They need to be showered weekly and kept away from stress, which will cause them to pluck their own feathers occasionally.
