How to Build a Pigeon Pen

How to Build a Pigeon Pen

Pigeons for sale need comfortable and spacious housing, particularly if you are planning on breeding them or using them as racing pigeons. Here’s how to build the perfect pigeon pen.

Location, location, location. Pigeons need sunlight and warmth. Damp is detrimental to their health. For these reasons a pigeon pen’s entrance should face south, to get sunlight in winter and shade in summertime.

Build a raised platform from cement or brick slabs. It should be at least 9 inches off the ground and wrapped in wire mesh to protect from potential predators.

Use a wood board for the pigeon house flooring. Cut the wood floor into sections and join them with nuts and bolts in case you one day need to move it.

Build the walls (two at the side, one at the back) and the roof with half-inch-thick plywood. Connect these to the floor with bolts, and connect the roof over the sidewalls with bolts also. The roof needs to be shingled over so that rain does not enter the pigeon pen.

Pigeons should be provided with perches, which can also be constructed with wood. You will need one perch per one pigeon as they are territorial and need their own space.

The space where the front wall would be, should be a Plexiglas sliding door, allowing you to see your pigeons and allowing them to see sunlight.
