Filling bird feeders governs what sort of birds come into your garden. If you want to attract your favourite birds then you will need to know what your favourite birds eat. Black oil sunflower seeds for example will attract a variety of songbirds such as finches. Suet bird seed combinations will attract doves and millet will attract ground feeding birds.

Good quality bird seed also helps to attract birds into your garden. It is always better to buy bird seed from a high quality distributer. Mixed seed bags have often been sitting around in stores for a while and have lost their fresh nutrients. A lot of mixed bird seed bags also have a lot of filler seeds such as milo and wheat which birds do not really like and they have little nutritional value.

You might find mixed bird seed bags cheaper but you will end up buying more of it because it will end up wasted on your lawn or porch. You might also find weeds are growing because of all the wasted seeds on the ground. It is much better to buy quality seed that isn’t wasted from a local bird seed shop.
