Feeding chickens the right food is good for the chicken’s health. Good chicken feed is paramount in the production of the best quality eggs. When chicken feeding, it is important to remember that each type of chicken feed has its own unique properties and provides certain nutrients that benefit in a number of ways.  For a guide to what chicken feed to give, see the following information.%%AFC-ADVERT%%

    Chicken Scratch

This is a commercially made blend of food that has a mixture of whole grains and cracked corn. Chicken feeding with this type of food should always be supplemented with other types. This is because it does not provide a sufficient amount of nutrition for a chicken, it is high in fat and low in protein.

    Greens

This is a good way of giving organic chicken feed. Any type of green leaf including lettuce, grass clippings or even garden weeds can be given to the chicken. Free-range chickens eat from their pasture and grass. Leftover salad from your own meals can be used too.

    Soybeans

These are a great option for providing plenty off protein. Soybeans should be boiled and soaked before feeding chickens with them. To add more nutrition to soybeans, mix oats, sunflower seeds and milk.

    Pellets

These are another commercially made chicken feeding option. Generally pellets combine corn, rice bran and soybean meal. The organic chicken feed pellets contain vegetarian sources, rather than chicken protein.

    Mash

This term is used to generally describe a type of chicken feed that has numerous ingredients ground. The ingredients are similar to pellets and it is also available as an organic chicken feed option.
