How to Catch an Escaped Pet Bird

Birds should be kept in cages that give them room to fly. However sometimes this is not practical and a bird will be kept in a smaller cage. Once a bird escapes it can be difficult to catch it again, but here’s the best way.

Make sure the area is secure. If the bird is in the living room for example, close all windows and doors. Remove dangerous items and turn off the ceiling fan if you have one as your bird could injure itself on it if it gets carried away.

Leave open your bird’s cage door and place some food in a dish inside it. This will hopefully tempt your bird back in.

The bird is probably very scared so you should react quickly but carefully. Once you have the bird at a close distance, put a pillowcase over it gently, pick it up and put it back in the cage. Even better, you could buy a net made especially for birds.
